2 year old HP desktop. Using XP SP2, IE 6 and AOL to connect to web then using Yahoo email. I save an image file, usually JPG format (i.e. picture.jpg) from Yahoo email, to the local harddrive. That works fine but when I try to view it using Windows Fax/Photo viewer or PhotoShop or even IE, it complains that the format is not an image file. I’ve opened the image in Notepad, expecting to see some legible header info (camera used, exposure settings, etc.) at least. Nothing but junk. I compared it with an image I’d copied from a CD and was able to view that info in Notepad.
I’ve copied pictures to the harddrive from a flash drive or CD and they work fine. Can view them w/o problem. Is there some background junk encoding I’m unaware of? (Thinking there is…) Or would there be some corrupt XP DLL or setting that got turned on/off that’s messing up the file? Does it need an IE/AOL patch? I’ve never seen this before. PC has lots of space & ram. Thanks in advance!
The filename does contain the “.jpg” (even tried “.jpeg”) extension when I save it to the hd.
I had some pictures and my computer deleted them off my memory card so I had to run a recovery program and some of the pictures have grey boxes in them and most of the files do not even show up when I try to open them with programs liek Windows Photo Viewer. It says the format is not supported, also some are dissorted.
I have downloaded about 8 programs but none work, can somneone please help me, these are important photos!

I’ve been to zvue.com a few times and checked out the 250 model. I’m interested. A few reviews and comments would be apreciated. (The zvue 250 is a rechargable, portable music and video player with photo viewer. It has no built in memory that I know of, but uses SD cards. And no built in memory is sort of a put down, but it leaves the 250 at a very low price of about $79. I think it looks nice too.)

I used to use a computer with XP, and it had a great photo viewer which could instantly make slideshows out of all the pictures in a folder. Now I’m using Vista, and the similar program in Vista is horrible. It takes around 15 seconds to make a slideshow, and it plays videos that are in the same folder as the photos. It has nice effects, like pan/zoom and fade, but these run really slow and don’t work well even on a brand new computer. Is there a way to downgrade to the software XP used, and if not, is there a program I could use to do the same things the XP software did?
I want to save an edited picture that i edited in photoshop, but it has a photoshop format options pop up that says “Turning off maximize compatability may interfere with the use of PSD files in other applications or with future versions of photoshop. ” and if i press ok and save it that way, i can only open it with photoshop, and not any other photo viewer. Tell me what this is and what to do. I”m new to photoshop, so i don’t know much about it. Help me save it so i can open it with my other photo viewer.
